This project included a 2,200m² extension to the existing emergency department and a 2,400m² extension to the delivery suite/maternity and operating theatre department.

Dlight supplied within design brief for this building including A&E, Plant Room and Boiler House, External Car Park Lighting. Dlight have worked on Wexford General with three contractors since 2014, this project was a key project as one of the first Hospitals on a new build in Ireland to have all lighting come complete with LED offerings.

The new Emergency Department (ED) will provide a total of 17 treatment spaces and two resuscitation rooms for emergency patients; an increase of 13 treatment spaces on the four currently available and an increase of one Resuscitation Room. This significant expansion in capacity will lead to improved admission times for patients and will also provide a much more enhanced environment for patients and for the staff working there.

The new ED, which was delivered ahead of schedule, will open to patients on next Wednesday 11th June. The existing ED facilities will then be refurbished for use as a temporary ward while other refurbishments/improvements work in ongoing in the Hospital. The second part of this overall €20 million project, which encompasses new Maternity Delivery Suites and third Operating Theatre, is scheduled to be commissioned later this year. WGH has liaised with Carlow I.T. (Wexford Campus School of Art & Design) to provide an exhibition of art works for the new development.

Dlight delivered a full Lighting package of LED on this project, a first in any of the hospitals in Ireland. Working with Douglas Carroll Engineers a development from draft drawings of comprising LED luminaires was proposed. Through many variations, a LED solution was delivered.
