The brief for this project was to create a multi-purpose venue utilizing an existing 19th Century two-storey Mill building. The philosophy behind the conservation was to return the building to active use, whilst not compromising the mills’ original form.
The structure consists of two large rooms, one at each level. These have been retained in their original format, and now houses the venues main reception room.
During the project, the internal and external stonework of the mill was carefully cleaned, restored and repointed, and all existing openings were fitted with new steel windows and doors. New extensions were constructed to accommodate ancillary functions, such as smaller reception rooms, stairs, lift, toilets, kitchen and plant.
The walls of these new structures are of monolithic construction in clay blocks, with a wood fibre external insulation system and render finish. The overall building is over 1300sqm (existing 628 sqm, new extensions 685 sqm.)
The Dlight brief was to follow the courteous detail in this beautiful estate with direction from Architects Dlight worked with Italian manufacturers ILfanale to design bespoke fittings for this project.
The project has won many prestigious awards for external landscaping and architecture to name but a few.
